‘The Bastard of Brittany by Victoria Vane

tbob vvSTORY: It takes more than a Kingdom to mend a heart…

As the daughter of the king who vanquished Vikings from Brittany, Gwened of Poher has a legacy to protect but doing her duty has left her in a loveless childless marriage. Aside from the artistry of her needlework, her life feels meaningless.

A hardened warrior, Bjorn Vargrsson was impervious to pain, until the tragic loss of his wife and son left a gaping wound that refuses to heal. With prayers and sacrifices unheeded by the gods, he lives an empty existence

REVIEW: For someone that loves history as much as I do, stories like this are fascinating. Ms. Vane creates the world of long ago with painstaking clarity and pushes a reader headlong into that world.

The story is as complex as the world of 10th Century Brittany, but the author takes her time in telling this tale with perfect pace, clever plotting and just enough romance and sensuality to whet our cravings for it.

This story is perfect for all those fans of the Vikings or The Last Kingdom. I highly recommend it!
