‘Scandal in Spring’ by Lisa Kleypas

sis-lkSTORY: Quirky and fun-loving American heiress Daisy Bowman is the last unmarried Wallflower. Her exasperated father has informed her that if she can’t find a husband by the end of her third London season, she will be forced to marry a man she hates—the ruthless entrepreneur Matthew Swift.

Daisy is horrified. A Bowman never admits defeat, so she decides to do whatever it takes to marry someone … anyone … other than Matthew. What she doesn’t count on, however, is Matthew’s unexpected charm, or the blazing sensuality that soon flares beyond both their control. And Daisy discovers that the man she has always hated just might turn out to be the man of her dreams.

But when a scandalous secret is uncovered, it could destroy both Matthew and a love more passionate and irresistible than Daisy’s wildest fantasies.

REVIEW: Daisy Bowman’s father, Thomas, is unhappy with her because after three seasons in London, she has yet to attract a titled man. This American family is very ambitious and successfully married their daughter, Lillian, to Lord Westcliff, a man with a good pedigree.

Since Daisy has no prospects, her father is selecting Matthew Swift for her. While not a man of wealth, he is from a good Boston family and is Thomas Bowman’s confidant. He is believed to be just like the man which is gruff and arrogant. Her father gives Daisy until the end of May to find a good husband or she will must marry Swift. In the past, Daisy and Lillian have found Swift and his arrogant ways very distasteful.

Upon arrival in Hampshire at Westcliff’s home, Daisy and her family look forward to a stay in the lovely countryside as they await the birth of Lillian’s baby. During a walk, Daisy encounters Matthew Swift whom she has not seen in quite some time. He has become quite a handsome man. When she tells him that her father plans to have her marry him if she fails to secure a match, he is surprised. He assures her that he is wealthy on his own and does not need to inherit her father’s money or to marry her.

As they spend more time together, Daisy realizes she was all wrong about Matthew. He is handsome and very intriguing. Matthew has always loved Daisy and finally tells her. The spark of love grows. But danger lurks. Matthew hints that he may not be the person she thinks he is.

This is a delightful novel that I enjoyed immensely. Matthew and Daisy’s love for each other is so sweet. Don’t miss it!

About Bookworm

I'm married, working, and have grown and independent kids. I love gardening, reading and painting. My favorite TV show is Dancing With the Stars! Television shows have gone to the crap house. My favorite movie of all time is "Last of the Mohicans" with Daniel Day Lewis. Second best is "Titanic" and third "Passion of the Christ". I am an avid reader and I love talking about the books I’ve read, especially romance novels. I will warn you though: I am prone to rants and raves about a lot of things!
