‘Queen Elizabeth II and the Royal Family’ by DK Publishing

qeIIatrf dkpSTORY: This is a magnificent tribute to the life and reign of Queen Elizabeth II, who is set to become the longest reigning British monarch, and a celebration of the British royal family.

The Queen and the Royal Family is a stunning visual guide to the Queen, from her childhood to today. Telling the story of the House of Windsor, including events such as the royal wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton, and profiles on key people such as Princess Diana and Prince Harry, right up to the birth of William and Kate’s second child, this is the complete guide to the world’s most famous royal family.

Includes the complete history of the kings and queens of England and Scotland, tracing the line of succession to the throne, this is the perfect book for anyone who loves the Queen and royal family, or is interested in the history of the British monarchy.

REVIEW: As a huge fan of the English Royal Family, I found this book to be full of facts about the British Monarchy dating back to the year 400. Separated into sections The British Monarchy, The House of Windsor, and Elizabeth II, it then includes sub-sections that briefly cover each ruing Monarchy from the year 400 to 1911.

There is a synopsized history of the Kings and Queens and their families including major historical events that took place during their reign. There is discussion of their coronations, weddings, and jubilees.

The descriptions and pictures of the palaces and castles lived in by these monarchs are a wonderful depiction of their individual lifestyles. Pictures of the major crown jewels, and some of the elaborate carriages used by the royals are just breathtaking.

I found this book to be a complete history all rolled up in one book. From there, the curious person, like me, can branch out to other historical books that expand more on each Monarch. It is right up-to-date as it includes the birth of both of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s children.

This is delightful historical reading at its best. I hope other readers will enjoy it as much as I did.
