REVIEW: A Year Without a Duke – Book No. 1

Beckworth Park – 1816

The Duke of Beckworth has died and a search is on for his heir.

Miss Rose Leyton, has lived at the estate as an impoverished relative of the late Duke and is doing all she can to help keep the estate running. She has been betrothed to a man for seven years and is waiting for him to return to England after serving in the war.

Mr. Colin Ford, the younger son of an impoverished Earl, is the new land agent. The former land agent ran off right after the Duke died, stealing money and leaving the estate records in a mess. No one knows why he did this.

Rose offers to help Colin sort through the mess of papers left by the former land agent. She is a great help and soon they have things straightened out. Their togetherness during this task soon turns into an attraction.

When Rose receives a letter from her betrothed informing her that he has met and married someone else thus breaking their betrothal, she is hurt. At the same time, she receives a letter from her brother, best friends with her ex-fiancee, telling her that both of them are going to visit her as her brother is insisting on finding a husband for her. She is furious!

When the men arrive, Colin steps in and tells them that he and Rose are engaged. He does this to help shield Rose from a forced marriage. That’s when her brother insists that they marry immediately. What will they do now?

This is a sweet romance and the first book of five in this series.
