REVIEW: Lady Felicity Danby has been widowed for nearly a year and a half now and has agreed to visit Bath with friends. Her daughter was born four months after her husband passed away. She has been a great comfort to her mother.
Gavin Stark, Viscount Derington, is determined that he will remain single. He and Felicity had been great friends growing up together. When he realized he was in love with her, he approached her to ask her to marry him. Before he could say anything, she told him that she had fallen in love and was going to marry Danby. That was when the bottom fell out of Gavin’s world.
Now, years later when they meet up again in Bath, he realizes his love is still the same for Felicity. She, on the other hand, is happy to renew their old friendship. While she is able to handle her grief better now, her memories of her husband will always remain dear.
Together, they enjoy outings with friends and family which is so healing for Felicity. Gavin meets her daughter and becomes quite enamored by her. However, Felicity finds some people censure her when she attempts to brighten her wardrobe and one man thinks she is advertising for a new husband. Taken aback and deeply hurt by this behavior, Felicity considers returning to her home. But with the constant reassurance of Gavin, she agrees to stay.
Will Felicity’s grief allow her to open her heart to another man again? Will Gavin finally be able to marry the woman he has always loved?
Erin Knightley has written a novel that shares the depths of grief and how those experiencing it most go through certain stages to be able to handle and then accept the loss of a loved one. Very well done!
