When her father falls gravely ill, eighteen-year-old Sydney Isabella Waverly dutifully agrees to marry the earl whose estate borders her family’s modest country home. But on a trip to Bath before she weds, Sydney meets the enigmatic, heroic Captain Zachary Quentin, with whom she feels an unmistakable mutual attraction.
Still, they have no choice but to part ways, regretting what might have been. Sydney cannot know that one day they will meet again under vastly changed circumstances, that Zachary will play an unexpected role in her life—and that the man she never forgot still ignites her heart. All that will remain is to find out if he feels the same way…
Miss Sydney Isabella Waverly has always felt that she was rather plain. She likes her name, Sydney, as she was named after her late mother. Her father and some friends have always called her Bella.
When her father falls ill with a wasting disease, she is quite upset. However, her father has asked her to marry Henry Laughton, the Earl of Paxton to ensure her future and that of her younger siblings, Geoffrey, age 11, and Marybeth, age 8. Sydney and Henry have known one another all their lives as their lands adjoin. When Henry loses his parents, he finds himself caring for his younger twin sisters, Lady Amy and Lady Anne. He and Sydney agree to the marriage. However, before Sydney marries, her father wants her to spend some time enjoying herself in Bath before she marries and takes over the care of her own siblings and Henry’s siblings.
While in Bath, she is staying with her aunt, Harriet Carstairs. There she meets Lieutenant Zachary Quentin, home from battle while convalescing from wounds he received. He is kind to her and they enjoy one another’s company. When their attraction grows, Sydney knows that it cannot be as she is betrothed to another man.
Upon returning home, she and Henry marry but their marriage is more of a friendship than one of affection. Sydney soon bears him a son. However, tragedy strikes and her friend, Zachary Quentin becomes trustee of her estate. As he takes his duties seriously overseeing the large estate, he and Sydney see one another quite often. Can their together reignite the love they once shared?
This was a sweet story and quite well written. This novel publishes on March 17, 2015. I have strived to add some teasers but no spoilers.
