‘What Happens At Christmas’ by Victoria Alexander

STORY: A blazing fire, an English country house . . . and the ultimate game of charades. In this charming holiday novel from #1 New York Times bestselling author Victoria Alexander, a beautiful widow finds her plan for a Christmas proposal going perfectly awry . . .

Camille, Lady Lydingham, knows precisely what she wants for Christmas–an official engagement to a handsome, dashing prince. Her very proper suitor expects a proper English family and the perfect Dickensian Christmas, which leaves the lovely widow with a slight problem. The last thing Camille wants is for the prince to meet her unconventional relatives. But with the aid of a troupe of actors, Camille intends to pull off a Christmas deception of massive proportions.

At least until Grayson Elliot shows up. A dozen years ago, he declared his love on the day before her marriage to another man, then vanished from her life. Now he’s back, gate-crashing Camille’s already chaotic house party, playing absolute havoc with her scheme–and with her heart. Because for Grayson, losing Camille once was quite bad enough. Losing her twice? Unthinkable. And he’ll find a way to show her they belong together–for this season, and every Christmas yet to come . . .

REVIEW: This one is for new and old VA fans! This author is a must for me and I devour everything she puts out. I still have a lot of her back titles on my TBR and I make sure never to pass up on getting one of her books.

As much as this story line was predictable, it was well written that I didn’t mind it at all. It still felt fresh because of the dialogue and characters involved.

It reminded me of the Murphy’s Law, if anything can go wrong, it will. No amount of planning helped our heroine and it made for a very funny and cute love story.

Very enjoyable Victorian romance!

    1. Got that one and still sits on my keeper shelf with some others of VA’s books and maybe I should do it for next year!

  1. I read and absolutely adored this book. It made me smile all the way through. Victoria Alexander is an awesome author!

    1. You said it! I do find that some of her stories tend to be a bit slow at some parts, but I’ve NEVER found her writing boring!

  2. Hi Melanie and a late Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Thanks for all the wonderful reviews you wrote this year and for letting me know about not only about the books of some of my favorite authors like Victoria but also the debut authors you featured in your posts and reviews. I had the opportunity to read Victoria’s What Happens At Christmas on our drive down to South Carolina to visit our grandchildren for the holidays and it was the perfect way to “kick off” the holidays! It was such a wonderful story and will be on my Christmas bookshelf to re-read next year! I know the holidays are technically over but it’s never too late to read a Christmas book that written as well as Victoria’s no matter the season!

If any of your followers are looking to warm up this winter season they should pick up a copy today because no matter the season we all need a little Christmas spirit to warm up our lives!

Best wishes to all for a very Happy New Year and the blessings of having a great book to read on their bookshelves or on their Kindle!

    1. You are one sweet woman!

When you come over and comment I just get amazed…
My wishes are the same for you. As long as we have our health, we’re good to go ;D

I think I have all of VA’s books IN PRINT! LOL!
