REVIEW: Phoebe Linville, raised as Quaker in America, is in for a rude awakening as she arrives from Philadelphia to be united with her maternal Grandfather, Earl of Merritt, who she’s never met.
Major Lucas Stanton is in for a rude awakening as he takes on an inheritance of an old title of Earl of Merritt, a dilapidated estate and a Granddaughter of the old earl.
As both, Phoebe and Lucas, struggle with the consequences of her Grandfathers passing, they are faced with mutual attraction that in the end gets them in hot water and marriage bed.
It was much fun watching their relationship progress from acquaintance to friendship and finally love. The evolution was most entertaining!
My favorite part of the story was when Phoebe slips back into her Quaker speak with her ‘plain English’ and addresses Lucas with ‘thee’ and ‘thou’ which only happens when she’s upset and overwrought with him.
Ms. Kelly knows her craft and by now knows that her long time fans will always welcome the return of her earlier heroes and heroines, and that’s why she masterfully brings them back every chance she gets and we just eat it up. If you loved, as I did, the feisty Bathsheba and her hero Dr. John Blackmore from ‘My Favorite Countess’, then you’ll be happy to know they’re back!
The author’s prose, pace and plot, the ever important three P’s of a successful novel, are all perfectly pitched and contribute to making this story plausible and entertaining, as well as romantic.
If you like the stories peppered with some misunderstandings, some smugglers and funny moments in and out of bed, this should be an excellent read for an evening or two.

Ps…. I like the snow falling on the blog. I hope we see some this year. We’ve sadly been lacking in that area here in my part of NC for the last few years. It’s funny though…. I can drive 20 minutes up the mountain and be in a foot of it in some areas.
